The evidence

Medical Studies

Penis enlargement is increasingly in demand, and the methods divide into surgical, non-surgical (filling) and mechanical. Here is a selection of the peer-reviewed literature on hyaluronic-acid filler for girth augmentation.

What the research shows.

Injection of hyaluronic acid into the penis glans

Moon DG, Kwak TI, Kim JJ, Cho HY

Injecting HA into the dermis of the glans was straightforward, showed long-term residence, and produced a high satisfaction rate — suggesting injectable filler is a safe, effective material for soft-tissue augmentation of the glans in patients with a small penis head.

Aesthetic Surgery Journal · Feb 2013; 33(2):258–264

Use of Macrolane VRF 30 in hemicircumferential penis enlargement

Sito G, Marlino S, Santorelli A

A retrospective review of 83 patients treated with either an HA-injection technique or lipofilling (fat) between 2007 and 2011. Circumferential enlargement from both techniques ranged from 3.2 to 4.5 cm. No complications were seen with HA, whereas eight lipofilling patients developed granuloma and one had fat necrosis. The vast majority (72) were "very satisfied". The authors conclude that hemicircumferential enlargement with HA filler meets the criteria of an ideal, non-surgical technique — though results are durable but not definitive, so repeat treatment is needed.

Nonsurgical medical penile girth augmentation: experience-based recommendations

Oates J, Sharp G

Notes that penile augmentation is increasingly sought yet remains controversial, with limited standardised recommendations and outcome data — underlining the need for safe, effective, minimally invasive procedures to be developed and reported.

Aesthetic Surgery Journal · 2018; 1–11

Psychological and psychosexual outcomes of non-surgical girth augmentation

Retrospective study, mixed-method

Of 25 men assessed 1–12 months after treatment (mean 6.6 months), most were satisfied with size, appearance and function. There were statistically significant improvements in genital self-image (P<0.001) and self-esteem (P=0.008), and a reduction in penile-focused body-dysmorphic symptoms (P=0.002). Interviews highlighted higher satisfaction with girth, increased self-confidence, and increased sexual confidence with some mixed relationship impacts.

Current hyaluronic-acid formulations developed specifically for penis enlargement are more durable than older varieties, acting as a scaffold that can create a degree of new tissue. Note that nothing about the body is truly "permanent" — filler is gradually metabolised, and top-up procedures maintain the result. Individual results will vary from person to person.
